22-year-old Laken Riley was brutally slain by an alleged illegal alien from Venezuela, drawing nationwide attention to the devastating uptick in migrant-related crime amid the ongoing open border catastrophe.
On Thursday, President Donald Trump confirmed during a press conference at the southern border in Eagle Pass, Texas, that he had spoken to the parents of the young Georgia nursing student.
He said that they were “devastated beyond belief. The president further vowed, “Joe Biden will NEVER say Laken Riley’s name – but WE will say it and we’re NOT going to forget it.”
Laken Hope Riley was a student at the University of Georgia and a member of the UGA chapter of Alpha Chi Omega, News Nation reported. Thousands of Georgians gathered in her honor in the past week during a vigil, and on Friday afternoon, her funeral service was scheduled to take place at the Woodstock City Church, per the outlet.
Laken loved “caring for others” and was “devoted to serving the Lord,” her obituary read.
From her obituary:
“Laken’s adoration for caring went beyond her goal of becoming a nurse and allowed her to be an extraordinary nanny for two young children. Her smile was extremely infectious, and she spread joy to others everywhere she went.”
The tragic death of Laken has further highlighted the devastating effects of widespread illegal migration and its impact on American communities in states like Georgia, which are not even on the southern border.
Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R) pointed out on Thursday, “Laken Riley should be alive today. But she was murdered by a brutal killer who should never have been here.”
According to News Nation, Laken Riley’s family will start the “Laken Hope Riley Foundation,” which will be utilized “to promote women’s safety.”
