During the commander-in-chief’s first day in office, President Donald Trump signed an executive order called Restoring Names that Honor American Greatness. This executive order renames the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and changes North America’s tallest peak back from Denali to Mount McKinley.

President Trump issued this executive order as a part of his initiative to honor American greatness again, including President William McKinley. Section 3 of the executive order states, “President William McKinley, the 25th President of the United States, heroically led our Nation to victory in the Spanish-American War.

“Under his leadership, the United States enjoyed rapid economic growth and prosperity, including an expansion of territorial gains for the Nation.”

The executive order continues, “President McKinley championed tariffs to protect U.S. manufacturing, boost domestic production, and drive U.S. industrialization and global reach to new heights.“ McKinley was assassinated in 1901.

In addition, during Inauguration Day, the Trump effect trickled down to Florida when Gov. Ron DeSantis officially named the Gulf of America in his emergency executive order as a winter storm moved toward the Sunshine State.
