President Trump is reportedly considering sending 10,000 U.S. troops to the southern border to stop the overwhelming invasion of illegal aliens coming into the country, according to CBS.
Such a decision would signal the largest domestic troop deployment since the Los Angeles riots over 30 years ago, which prompted President George H. W. Bush to invoke the Insurrection Act to stop the carnage unfolding on the streets.
According to CBS, the potential troop deployment under Trump comes on the heels of the president’s slew of executive orders signed on Monday upon taking office, where he declared a national emergency at the border and therefore ordered troops and resources be sent to the region to assist the Department of Homeland Security in its operations.
If 10,000 troops are indeed sent to the border to halt illegal immigration, CBS stated that, based on their assessment of an internal government memo, the Defense Department may be poised to convert bases into facilities aimed at detaining migrants who are caught crossing the border illegally – with ICE asking for at least a reported 14 new facilities to detain aliens.
According to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, the president signed an order on Wednesday authorizing the deployment of 1,500 troops to the border. This week, U.S. troops have already begun arriving on there to assist in putting up barriers and to detect and deport aliens who are intercepted.
This troop movement also parallels the execution of widespread ICE immigration raids in major cities like Boston.
White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller told Fox News on Wednesday that immigration raids have already resulted in the arrest and removal of “some of the most vicious criminals in this country.”
He also foreshadowed a “massive scale-up” in such enforcement operations over the coming days.
President Trump is expected to sign another executive order Thursday afternoon and hold a phone call with the president of El Salvador, according to the White House.
