Amidst leadership shakeups in the Republican National Committee, President Trump appears to be eyeing North Carolina Republican Party Chair Michael Whatley as a potential GOP leader.
This came after Chief of Staff Mike Reed announced his decision to step down. Shortly after, President Trump shared his leadership suggestions for the RNC.
According to RSBN, President Trump wrote on Truth Social, “Ronna (McDaniel) is now Head of the RNC, and I’ll be making a decision the day after the South Carolina Primary as to my recommendations for RNC Growth.”
Newsmax reported that earlier in the week, President Trump hinted at changes in leadership during a Fox News interview, saying, “I would say right now, there’ll probably be some changes made.”
This is the result of the committee’s worst fundraising year, and according to Forbes, it is because the leadership is out of touch with its grassroots supporters.
Now, there is speculation, shared by Newsmax, that President Trump may be eyeing North Carolina Republican Party Chair Michael Whatley to head the RNC.
Fox News reported that, according to a familiar source, President Trump may prefer Whatley because he was “so powerful on election fraud” back in 2020.
Whatley has served as the North Carolina GOP chair since 2019 and has been a staunch supporter of President Trump. However, this does not guarantee him the leadership position. Should McDaniel resign, her replacement, be it Whatley or Republican California Committeewoman Harmeet Dhillon, will need approval from the 168 RNC committee members.
Fox News reported that McDaniel said, “I want to take the time to reassure all of you that I am still hard at work as RNC Chairwoman and building a machine that will elect Republicans up and down the ballot in November.”
No final decisions have been made as of yet.
