It’s no secret that Chinese strength poses a threat to American sovereignty, and as their military might and economic momentum grows, the world has taken notice.
When President Donald Trump was in office, he hammered China hard on trade and imports, doubling down on protectionist policies that imposed tariffs on billions of dollars of imports from Asia.
In 2023, he explained, “I stood up to China like no administration has ever done before. Bringing in hundreds and hundreds of billions of dollars pouring into our Treasury from China when no other president had gotten even 10 cents.”
In his recent interview with TIME magazine, Trump noted this spring that his administration saved the steel industry in America by taking aim at Chinese imports.
He said, “I’ve had owners of steel companies and executives of steel companies come up and start crying when they see me. They say, ‘nobody, nobody helped us until you came along.’ China was dumping massive amounts of steel into our country. And we saved the steel industry.”
And yet, despite the full breadth of Chinese power staring America in the face with Joe Biden at the helm, President Trump on Thursday explained that there was something much more dangerous to worry about.
While speaking to reporters just outside the courtroom in Manhattan, which he remarked was locked down “like Fort Knox,” he said that the “threat” in America wasn’t from the “right.”
Rather, he noted, “[The] big problem [is] from the LEFT. It’s from within, from within our country…in my opinion, a bigger danger than China or Russia. You have it from the outside and you have it from within.”
His comments come amid an ongoing criminal trial as he is facing unprecedented legal prosecution from multiple fronts during a critical election year.
Recently, President Trump unveiled bold new promises in an Agenda47 announcement to reduce America’s reliance on China and put America First.
