President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that Democrats should lose the 2026 midterms based on their behavior during his speech to a Joint Session of Congress.

Trump expressed the thoughts in a Truth Social post late Wednesday as conservatives highlighted the lack of response by Democrats to key issues noted by the president.

“The Democrats should lose the Midterms based on their behavior at last night’s Joint Address to Congress. All Republicans must use their behavior on men in women’s sports, their very dangerous Open Border policy, High Energy and Taxes, and much else,” Trump wrote.

“Also, Republicans should utilize the footage provided on the total disrespect they showed to all of those that were honored that night, including young ladies who were killed by illegal migrants, people with terminal cancer, etc. They didn’t even have the common courtesy to stand, smile, or applaud. This could be, on analyzing the full tape of this Historic Event, your full CAMPAIGN TO VICTORY! In other words, Republicans can take what happened last night, and win any Race in the Country. Good Luck!!!” the president added.

In addition, Texas Democratic Rep. Al Green was removed from the chamber after repeatedly heckling Trump.

Other Democrats silently walked out or held signs to protest the president’s speech.

Still others, like New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, refused to show up for the speech. She instead announced that she would live post on social media during the president’s speech.

Virginia Democratic Rep. Gerry Connolly, the top Democrat on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, also boycotted Trump’s speech “in solidarity” with federal government employees who have been terminated.

Fellow Virginia Democratic Rep. Don Beyer wrote Tuesday morning on X that he would not attend Trump’s speech.

“This evening President Trump will address a coequal branch of government for which he has shown total contempt and disregard,” he posted alongside a video statement. “Meanwhile my constituents are seeing their livelihoods destroyed, often illegally. What he is doing is not normal, it is not acceptable, and I won’t be attending.”
