President Donald Trump revealed that he has now chosen a vice presidential running mate for the 2024 presidential race.
After NBC News’ Jake Traylor asked the president if he had decided on a certain pick, Trump replied, “In my mind, yeah,” suggesting that this person would “most likely” be at his upcoming presidential debate with Joe Biden on Thursday.
“They’ll be there,” Trump told Traylor while visiting Tony and Nick’s Steaks in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, just hours before taking the stage for a campaign rally in the city. “I think we have a lot of people coming.”
Trump also confirmed that “nobody knows” who he has picked, and according to Traylor’s post to X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, not even the chosen candidate is aware of the decision.
President Trump’s shortlist reportedly includes Sen. J.D. Vance, R-Ohio, Gov. Doug Burgum, R-N.D., Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., HUD Secretary Ben Carson, Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., and Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., as prospective candidates.
It has not been confirmed which surrogates will be in attendance at the presidential debate next week.
According to Odds Checker, a probability bookings website, the betting odds found Burgum and Vance to be the most likely contenders to be in the running.
After suspending his own presidential bid in December, Burgum, a governor and businessman, has been a staunch ally of President Trump. Vance was also an early supporter of the president’s 2024 bid and was previously endorsed by him for his senate race two years ago.
As previously reported by RSBN, the president said last month that he would formally announce his running mate around the time of the July Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
