President Donald Trump said Wednesday on social media that he is working to stop Democrats from shutting down the government next week.

The president posted the update to his Truth Social account concerning temporary government funding that ends on March 14.

“Government funding runs out next week, and Democrats are threatening to shut down the Government – But I am working with the GREAT House Republicans on a Continuing Resolution to fund the Government until September to give us some needed time to work on our Agenda,” Trump wrote.

“Conservatives will love this Bill, because it sets us up to cut Taxes and Spending in Reconciliation, all while effectively FREEZING Spending this year, and allowing us to continue our work to, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. VERY IMPORTANT – Let’s get this Bill done!” he added.

Republicans hold a slim majority in the House, meaning that nearly all members must support a temporary funding bill for it to pass. Members of the House Freedom Caucus, who have opposed past funding measures, met with Trump at the White House on Wednesday.

“Look, we haven’t seen the final form of the CR,” said Rep. Andy Harris following the meeting. “In concept, the president has said he needs this for his agenda. We support the president’s agenda.”

The previous continuing resolution passed in December before Trump’s return to the White House. House Speaker Mike Johnson pushed for the temporary measure that faced pushback from some GOP members but ultimately passed with Trump’s backing.

Trump also expressed support for the previous continuing resolution led by Johnson in a Truth Social post.

“Speaker Mike Johnson and the House have come to a very good Deal for the American People. The newly agreed to American Relief Act of 2024 will keep the Government open, fund our Great Farmers and others, and provide relief for those severely impacted by the devastating hurricanes,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“A VERY important piece, VITAL to the America First Agenda, was added as well – The date of the very unnecessary Debt Ceiling will be pushed out two years, to January 30, 2027. Now we can Make America Great Again, very quickly, which is what the People gave us a mandate to accomplish,” he continued. “All Republicans, and even the Democrats, should do what is best for our Country, and vote ‘YES’ for this Bill, TONIGHT!”
