President Donald Trump signed an executive on Friday establishing a White House task force for organizing the 2026 FIFA World Cup games slated to come to the United States, which is projected to bring billions of dollars of revenue across three countries.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino joined the president in the Oval Office while the document was signed. He also unveiled the new FIFA World Cup golden trophy to the press, which President Trump said would be housed at the White House for some time before the games began next year.
Infantino said the World Cup games would span 11 cities and 12 stadiums and showcase “the best players in the world, the best teams in the world.”
He also said millions of people would visit the United States to see these games and projected it would bring in roughly $40 billion of revenue and create 200,000 jobs. Additionally, he revealed that 10 million tickets are for sale, describing the event as “like three Super Bowls every day for one month.”
President Trump remarked, “That’s really amazing when you think of it…I’ll be president during the World Cup and during the Olympics, which we were very instrumental in getting…we have our 250th birthday, too.”
America’s Semiquincentennial will be celebrated on July 4, 2026, 250 years after the Declaration of Independence was signed.
The president told Infantino that it was a “great honor” for the United States to be selected to host some of the World Cup events. Also revealed during the Oval Office press conference was the fact that President Trump himself is the chair of the task force, which will help coordinate these games.
Canada and Mexico will also participate in hosting some of these games.
