President Donald Trump signed a proclamation on Sunday declaring Feb. 9 the Gulf of America Day while flying over the body of water on the way to the Super Bowl.
Trump posted a video of his signing to his Truth Social post on Sunday.
“Air Force One is currently in international waters for the first time in history flying over the recently renamed Gulf of America. Please enjoy the flight, and we are now about to head westbound to Super Bowl 59,” the airplane pilot announced in the video.
“Today, I am very honored to recognize February 9, 2025, as the first ever Gulf of America Day,” the proclamation begins.
“Today, I am making my first visit to the Gulf of America since its renaming. As my Administration restores American pride in the history of American greatness, it is fitting and appropriate for our great Nation to come together and commemorate this momentous occasion and the renaming of the Gulf of America,” it later added.
Trump renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America through an executive order on his first day in office on Jan. 20.
“The Gulf will continue to play a pivotal role in shaping America’s future and the global economy, and in recognition of this flourishing economic resource and its critical importance to our Nation’s economy and its people, I am directing that it officially be renamed the Gulf of America,” the order stated.
Trump’s order also returned the name Mount McKinley to the famous mountain in Alaska. Former President Barack Obama previously renamed it Denali.
“President William McKinley, the 25th President of the United States, heroically led our Nation to victory in the Spanish-American War. Under his leadership, the United States enjoyed rapid economic growth and prosperity, including an expansion of territorial gains for the Nation,” Trump wrote.
“President McKinley championed tariffs to protect U.S. manufacturing, boost domestic production, and drive U.S. industrialization and global reach to new heights. He was tragically assassinated in an attack on our Nation’s values and our success, and he should be honored for his steadfast commitment to American greatness,” he added.
