In a rather fiery exchange, President Donald Trump slammed Maryland Democrat Gov. Wes Moore regarding Baltimore’s elevated crime rate, implying he may send in the National Guard to restore the rule of law.
The president’s comments come after the governor asked President Trump to attend September’s public safety walk in Baltimore in order to “discuss strategies for effective public safety policy.”
Moore, a speculative 2028 presidential candidate, wrote in an Aug. 21 letter that this would showcase the crime-ridden city’s commitment to public safety.
In response, President Trump claimed Moore had a poor record concerning crime, arguing that he “fudges his figures on crime” like many other blue states.
“Governor Wes Moore of Maryland has asked, in a rather nasty and provocative tone, that I ‘walk the streets of Maryland’ with him,” Trump wrote Sunday in a post to Truth Social. “I assume he is talking about out of control, crime ridden, Baltimore? As President, I would much prefer that he clean up this Crime disaster before I go there for a ‘walk.'”
He added, “Wes Moore’s record on Crime is a very bad one, unless he fudges his figures on crime like many of the other ‘Blue States’ are doing. But if Wes Moore needs help, like Gavin Newscum did in L.A., I will send in the ‘troops,’ which is being done in nearby DC, and quickly clean up the Crime.”
The president further argued that in only one week, there had been no crime or murder since sending the guard into the nation’s capital city, and when Baltimore was like that too, he would “proudly ‘walk the streets'” with the governor.
“P.S. Baltimore is ranked the 4th WORST CITY IN THE NATION IN CRIME & MURDER. Stop talking and get to work, Wes. I’ll then see you on the streets!!!” he continued.
The president then suggested he might “rethink” his decision to fix the Francis Scott Key Bridge, which was demolished after being hit by a cargo ship on March 26, 2024.
“Also, I gave Wes Moore a lot of money to fix his demolished bridge. I will now have to rethink that decision??? Thank you for your attention to this matter. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! President DJT,” he concluded.
