Over the past week, the ongoing civil fraud trial in New York that was brought against President Trump by the New York State Attorney General Letitia James hit significant milestones in terms of witness testimony.
Last week, Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. took the stand in the case, followed by the anticipated testimony of President Donald Trump himself on Monday. On Wednesday, the president’s eldest daughter, Ivanka Trump, also took the stand in the downtown Manhattan court, giving detailed and calm answers to questions surrounding the Trump Organization’s business practices.
The Associated Press reported that AG James described Ivanka’s testimony as “cordial” as well as “controlled” and “courteous.” However, James argued that Ms. Trump had “enriched” herself via alleged “fraudulent statements of financial condition.”
The crux of the case that AG James has brought against President Trump and his business rests on the allegation that financial statements were overinflated.
Trump has strongly denied any wrongdoing and has called the case “political lawfare,” slamming both the attorney general and the presiding judge, Arthur Engoron, for engaging in “ELECTION INTERFERENCE.”
He explained on Thursday morning on Truth Social, “The New York State Judicial System is under attack because of the way the bogus A.G. ‘case’ has played out. It’s a giant SCAM, with no ‘smoking gun,’ No Victim (except me!), and absolutely no crime.”
On Monday, the president’s testimony seemed to draw anger from Judge Engoron, who at one point reportedly declared, “No, I’m NOT here to hear what he [Trump] has to say.”
Trump added in his statement, “Everybody thinks that this political Witch Hunt should END TODAY. It is an embarrassment to New York…And Remember Mar-a-Lago!!!”
The attorney general’s star witness in the case, convicted felon and former lawyer Michael Cohen, “crumbled like nothing I have ever seen before” during his testimony a few weeks ago, according to Trump.
As reported by RSBN, Cohen denied that the president had ever asked him to fudge the numbers on financial statements, lending serious credence to Trump’s comments.
Before Ivanka’s testimony on Wednesday, Trump defended his “wonderful and beautiful daughter” and scorched AG James for allowing “Murder and Violent Crime in New York to flourish, and a Trump Hating, out of control Clubhouse appointed Judge, Arthur Engoron, who viciously ruled against me before the trial even started, wouldn’t even consider a Jury, and said that Mar-a-Lago, in Palm Beach, Florida, is worth $18,000,000 when, in fact, it is worth 50 to 100 times that amount.”
