President Trump posted a battle cry against renewing the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) Section 702.

On Tuesday night, he posted to Truth Social stating, “KILL FISA, IT WAS ILLEGALLY USED AGAINST ME, AND MANY OTHERS. THEY SPIED ON MY CAMPAIGN!!!  DJT.”

FISA’s Section 702 has received scrutiny for authorizing warrantless surveillance of foreign individuals, per Axios

In 2021, former FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith received probation after pleading guilty to falsifying information on four FISA warrant applications to investigate Trump over now debunked campaign ties with Russia, via AP News.

Then, in 2023, Politico reported that senior White House officials admitted that the FBI misused Section 702 of FISA to investigate American citizens.

The declining trust between the people and government institutions has been worsening for years now. According to Gallup, Americans’ faith in U.S. government institutions hit a historic low in 2022 with no recovery in sight.

Now, Republican leaders seeking to put America First and restore Americans’ trust are speaking out against renewing FISA 702 as is.

According to Breitbart, Republicans have sought to reform FISA 702 and safeguard Americans’ rights against unwarranted government surveillance.

Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., sponsored one of the proposed reform bills and claimed that although House Speaker Mike Johnson once supported updating Section 702 with new safeguards, the Speaker is no longer committed to them, per Breitbart.

“Kill FISA” and “Get a Warrant” began trending on X Wednesday morning as Republicans spoke out.
