President Donald Trump posed an interesting question this week about millions of dollars allegedly funneled to a mainstream media outlet via the federal bureaucracy – a nugget of information initially uncovered by Elon Musk’s DOGE investigations.
“Whatever happened to the $8,000,000 given by our ‘government’ to Radical Left Politico magazine, or whatever you would call it,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
In early February, DOGE uncovered a mysterious link between Politico and USAID, which allegedly paid more than $8 million to the outlet to supposedly subsidize subscriptions.
Per Axios, White House Press Secretary explained, “I can confirm that the more than eight million taxpayer dollars that have gone to essentially subsidizing subscriptions to Politico on the American taxpayer’s dime will no longer be happening.”
In his Truth Social statement, Trump suggested that this money “should be taken back by DOGE, ASAP.”
The president also posed a question about a $2 billion grant given by the Environmental Protection Agency to “Rewiring America,” one of five “Power Forward Communities,” which is an NGO linked to Democrat Stacey Abrams, a former Georgia state representative.
“She went from $100 in donations to $2,000,000,000 in just one day? Not bad!!! Get back the money,” Trump wrote.
According to the New York Post, this NGO was awarded a grant by the Biden administration’s EPA in 2024 as part of an eight-way disbursement with other organizations – but the outlet reported that the money had not been distributed yet.
In response to the president’s statement online, EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin issued an update on the situation:
“I have terminated the $2 BILLION Biden EPA grant to this Stacey Abrams-linked NGO. The DOJ/FBI are investigating and the money has been frozen. It is insane that the Biden Admin would give $2B to an organization that previously only received $100!”
