President Donald Trump continue to lead Vice President Kamala Harris on two key voter concerns, according to a recent ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll.
The poll, conducted Aug. 9-13 among 2,336 adults, was released by ABC News over the weekend, noting a sampling error of two percent. While Harris holds a slight national lead, Trump still commands a nearly double-digit lead on top voter issues ahead of the November presidential election.
Data shows Trump leading Harris by nine points concerning who voters trust to handle the economy and inflation, with over 85 percent of adults rating the two issues as “highly important” in determining their vote. Trump also has a double digit lead over Harris on the border crisis, sitting ahead by 10 points, ABC News reported.
Since Harris became the Democratic Party’s presumptive nominee after President Joe Biden ended his reelection bid on July 21, the party has seen a significant surge in support from lawmakers, donors and other political figures.
Despite not yet releasing a full campaign platform as of Tuesday, Harris unveiled her economic proposals on Friday. The vice president’s proposals faced major pushback from pundits on both sides of the aisle, particularly over her push for a federal ban on “corporate price gouging” to address high grocery store prices.
Pundits have since warned that the attack could not only impact corporate profits and drive prices further up, but could also lead to the creation of black markets.
“This is about controlling the economy, not liberating the economy. I think the American people will see through it. This stuff never works. If you want to see how well it works, go to North Korea, go to Cuba, and go to the old Soviet Union. Look it up, Kamala,” Editor-in-Chief of Forbes and Republican businessman Steve Forbes said last week on Fox Business.
