President Donald Trump plans to add two 100-foot-tall flagpoles outside the White House to fly American flags, offering to pay for it himself.
The White House X account posted a picture of the president discussing the plans for the new installation of the flagpoles on Wednesday.
“We’re putting up a beautiful, almost 100-foot-tall American flag on this side, and another one on the other side — top-of-the-line, paid for by Trump,” the post stated.
“They’ve needed flag poles for 200 years,” Trump said, according to The National News Desk. “It was something I’ve often said ‘they don’t have a flag pole.’”
The White House currently flies a U.S. flag above its rooftop alongside a POW/MIA flag.
Trump has also outlined plans to redesign the White House grounds and interior, starting with a significant overhaul of the Rose Garden. Instead of the traditional lawn, he aims to install a paved platform to make hosting events easier and delivering speeches without the risk of standing on wet grass.
In addition, Trump has suggested adding a ballroom to the White House — a feature similar to the one at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. He previously pitched the estimated $100 million project to the Biden administration but received no response.
This time, he plans to move forward, saying it would provide more space and eliminate the need for temporary tents during formal gatherings, The New York Post reported.
Inside the White House, Trump has already made decorative changes to the Oval Office, featuring more portraits of former presidents and gold accents throughout — a design style that mirrors the opulence of Mar-a-Lago. Gold detailing now appears on the walls, door frames, picture frames, and statues.
Trump also participated in planting a new tree on the South Lawn after removing a nearly 200-year-old magnolia tree that had become unstable and posed a safety risk.
The president is also pitching additional plans for the White House and elsewhere as part of the nation’s 250th birthday in 2026. A committee has been established to undertake year-long efforts as part of the celebration.
