President Donald Trump is scheduled to make an important address to the Libertarian National Party later this month.
The 45th president confirmed via an announcement on his website Wednesday that he will headline the event on May 25 in Washington D.C.
The announcement stated, “Members of the Libertarian Party will share a list of their top ten issues with President Trump in advance of the convention, hoping to make an impact on the policy positions of a past, and possibly future, President.”
They called it an “incredible opportunity” after failed attempts at engaging presidential candidates for half a century.
Upon accepting the invitation, President Trump stated, “Libertarians are some of the most independent and thoughtful thinkers in our Country, and I am honored to join them in Washington, DC, later this month.”
He noted the importance of working together and stressed the need to defeat the Biden administration’s “death, destruction, and incompetence.”
According to the Pew Research Center, Independent voters make up about one-third of the voting population.
The center noted that a whopping 35 percent of American adults identify as Independent or something other than Democrat and Republican.
This could easily sway the upcoming election and prominent Libertarian voices are recognizing the significance of President Trump’s scheduled appearance.
Podcast host and Libertarian Dave Smith posted in favor of bringing him in. He stated on X, “I know there are some libertarians who have a severe allergy to relevance, but it is an undeniably great thing that Trump is speaking at the Libertarian Party National Convention.”
“The former President of the United States of America, and current front runner for that office, is coming to OUR convention to speak to OUR issues and grievances,” he went on, adding the significance of being recognized.
The highly popular pro-Trump Libertarian account, Clandestine, celebrated this move as well.
He pointed out that President Trump “has more Libertarian policies than any President in my lifetime, and he is clearly an enemy of the establishment.”
He noted that although Trump is not perfect, he does not support “the Uniparty” or “Neocons.”
“Libertarians might have a different vision on how to get there, but Trump and Libertarians largely share the same goals and have the same enemies,” Clandestine went on.
He added, “I see this as an opportunity for unity and for growth between MAGA and Libertarians, who are a lot closer than most realize.”
