President Donald Trump blasted Joe Biden’s plan to use the Strategic National Reserves to reduce the skyrocketing cost of oil and gasoline Thursday.

This week, Biden announced that his administration would release 1 million barrels of oil from the U.S. Strategic Petroleum reserve every day for six months to combat rising energy costs. The Biden administration’s plan is yet another refusal to unleash American energy independence.

Trump, who has repeatedly criticized the Biden administration’s response to the current energy crisis, released a statement Thursday warning against Biden’s decision to empty the Strategic National Reserves.

“After 50 years of being virtually empty,” Trump said, “I built up our oil reserves during my administration, and low energy prices, to 100% full.”

Trump explained that the U.S. oil reserves were nearly barren for several decades before his administration. However, during the Trump administration, he took advantage of the global energy market and unleashed American energy independence, allowing the United States to replenish its oil and gas reserves.

In his statement, Trump added, “Biden has just announced he’s going to take what we so carefully and magically built, and what will be a futile attempt to reduce oil and gasoline prices.”

“It’s supposed to only be used for large-scale emergency or conflict,” Trump said. Pointing out the failed policies of the Biden administration, Trump added, “They will soon bring it down to empty again. It just never ends!”

Trump is not the only Republican to criticize the Biden administration’s latest energy policy announcement. Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., tweeted her response, “Biden plans to empty the strategic oil reserves that Trump filled up. Pathetic.”

Rep. Kevin Hern, R-Okla., also asserted, “Our oil reserves are meant to assist us in times of emergency, NOT to compensate for bad policies.”
