Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee heard an explosive day in court when District Attorney Fani Willis took the witness stand in a hearing that could potentially result in her disqualification from spearheading an election-related case against President Donald J. Trump.
President Donald Trump, who attended a courtroom hearing at the same time in New York City in another Manhattan case, weighed in on the developments on Thursday, calling it the “Fani Scandal” and deriding the state’s “humiliating embarrassment” over the issue.
He wrote on Truth Social, “The legal pundits, experts, and scholars are all screaming that this Witch Hunt, which has hurt so many fine people and patriots, should be immediately terminated and permanently erased from everyone’s memory. The stench of what has happened should shame Georgia no longer. It should get back to GREATNESS, and FAST!!!”
On Thursday, following detailed testimony from her former lover, attorney Nathan Wade, DA Willis demanded to take the stand at around 3:00 p.m. ET, firing off heated comments, clashing with attorneys, and repeatedly accusing Michael Roman’s lawyer, Ashleigh Merchant, of being a liar.
Michael Roman is a co-defendant in the Georgia case. His motion, filed by Ms. Merchant, initially alleged that DA Willis had an improper relationship with Nathan Wade, whereby they both are being accused of financially benefiting.
Willis made a series of fiery comments in court, and at one point, the judge called a break as she picked up documents from the case and yelled from the stand, “IT IS A LIE!”
Willis also claimed that her testimony was enough to prove her innocence, explaining, “The testimony of one witness is enough to prove a fact.”
The district attorney also attempted to explain that she only reimbursed Mr. Wade for their lavish vacations to places like Belize and Aruba in cash while he was working as the prosecutor on the Trump election case.
She said that the “source of the money is always the work, sweat, and tears of ME” and that “for many, many years, I have kept money in my house.” She further said she took out “a large amount of money from my first campaign – I kept some of the cash of that.”
Willis’s seemingly questionable comments have drawn considerable attention. Trump remarked on Truth Social, “I can’t believe the Georgia State Judiciary, or the Governor, can be happy about this humiliating embarrassment.”
