President Donald Trump issued a statement Monday concerning Russia’s aggression toward Ukraine. “What’s happening with Russia and Ukraine would never have happened under the Trump Administration. Not even a possibility!” said the 45th president.
Since Biden took office, Russian President Vladimir Putin has been massing thousands of troops on Ukraine’s border over the past several months, foreshadowing Russian aggression in the region.
In contrast, during the Trump administration, Russia largely respected America’s military power, with an understanding that any aggressive acts would be met with consequences by the president of the United States. However, under Biden, Russia has taken advantage of America’s weak foreign policy and the incompetence of America’s leadership.
Russia is on the brink of taking over Ukraine, leaving America and American allies in a state of crisis. As tension mounts between Russia and Ukraine, the Biden administration has been unable to halt Russia’s actions on the border.
The State Department announced on Sunday that it will begin evacuating nonessential staff from the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv this week.
According to a travel advisory published Sunday evening by the State Department, “There are reports Russia is planning significant military action against Ukraine. The security conditions, particularly along Ukraine’s borders, in Russia-occupied Crimea, and in Russia-controlled eastern Ukraine, are unpredictable and can deteriorate with little notice. Demonstrations, which have turned violent at times, regularly occur throughout Ukraine, including in Kyiv.”
The State Department also announced, “U.S. citizens in Ukraine should consider departing now using commercial or other privately available transportation options.” As Americans prepare to leave Ukraine, parallels are being made between the disastrous evacuation of Afghanistan and the sudden fear of tension on the Ukrainian border.
Biden campaigned on foreign policy during the 2020 presidential election. The Democrat Party claimed that Biden had immense experience with foreign policy due to his time in the U.S. Senate and his service as Obama’s vice president. However, his first year in office has left America and its allies vulnerable to Russian and Chinese aggression. The situation between Russia and Ukraine could have been prevented through American strength, rather than being encouraged by American weakness under the Biden administration.
In addition to the 45th president’s statement, Donald Trump Jr. tweeted, “This Russia/Ukraine mess is a direct result of Biden’s weakness. Everyone knows it.” He added, “Nobody pulled this nonsense with Trump in the WH.”
Trump Jr.’s statement echoes the words of the 45th president, reassuring the American people that this crisis could have been avoided with proper leadership.
Under President Trump, America was respected, and Putin was unable to impose his will upon the nations surrounding Russia, such as Ukraine. Under the Biden administration, however, America is no longer respected, and America’s allies are facing trouble across the globe, especially with regard to Russia. The question now remains whether the United States will stand up to Russia or whether Biden will allow Putin to encroach upon Ukraine.
