The White House is speaking out after Boston Democratic Mayor Michelle Wu intensified her criticism of federal immigration authorities this week, drawing backlash after likening ICE agents to neo-Nazis during recent remarks.
The comments come just days after she referred to Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel and other federal officers as “secret police” in the context of immigration enforcement actions.
“Because of dangerous, unhinged smears from the Left, ICE officers are facing a 413% increase in assaults,” White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson said in a statement.
“President Trump is keeping his promise to the American people to deport illegal aliens. It’s disturbing that Democrats like Mayor Wu would side with illegal immigrants over Americans and stoke hatred against American law enforcement,” she added.
The White House accused Wu of vilifying law enforcement and stoking hostility toward federal agents at a time when ICE personnel face growing threats to their safety and that of their families. It argued that Wu’s words ignore the risks taken by law enforcement and undermine the role of federal agents working to protect communities across the country.
Her remarks follow a major immigration enforcement operation in Massachusetts, where ICE officials recently apprehended nearly 1,500 individuals with criminal records in a record-setting removal effort for the state.
The remarks also come as ICE detained more than 2,200 individuals on Tuesday, marking the highest number of arrests in a single day in the agency’s history. The operation was part of the Trump administration’s escalated immigration enforcement strategy.
The surge in arrests follows directives from senior administration officials, including White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who have set a goal of 3,000 daily arrests. This represents a significant increase from the previous average of 1,800 daily arrests.
“Under President Trump’s leadership, we are looking to set a goal of a minimum of 3,000 arrests for ICE every day,” the White House official told The New York Post.
“And President Trump is going to keep pushing to get that number up higher each and every single day, so we can get all of the Biden illegals that were flooded into our country for four years out of our country.”
