President Donald Trump reacted to Wisconsin voters supporting a voter identification requirement during Tuesday’s special election, calling it a “big win for Republicans.”

The president posted to Truth Social following the projected victory to celebrate the new election integrity policy.

“VOTER I.D. JUST APPROVED IN WISCONSIN ELECTION. Democrats fought hard against this, presumably so they can CHEAT. This is a BIG WIN FOR REPUBLICANS, MAYBE THE BIGGEST WIN OF THE NIGHT. IT SHOULD ALLOW US TO WIN WISCONSIN, LIKE I JUST DID IN THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION, FOR MANY YEARS TO COME!” Trump wrote.

Despite the voter identification victory, voters in Wisconsin chose a liberal candidate for the state’s Supreme Court. Trump’s attempt to influence the Wisconsin judicial race by backing conservative Brad Schimel fell short.

Liberal judge Susan Crawford emerged as the winner, according to multiple media reports. Trump had previously taken to social media to endorse Schimel, calling him a “Patriot” and labeling Crawford a “Radical Left Liberal.”

The Associated Press called the race for Crawford shortly after 10 p.m. Eastern. She led with 55.9 percent of the vote and 69 percent of precincts reporting. Republican Brad Schimel was behind with 44.1 percent.

This election was the first statewide contest in a battleground state since Trump’s 2024 win and garnered national attention. It served not only as a possible indicator of public sentiment toward the new administration but also held significant consequences for Wisconsin itself. The state’s Supreme Court currently consists of three liberal justices and three conservatives, with the open seat resulting from the retirement of a liberal judge.

The outcome of the Wisconsin race carries significant weight, as the state’s Supreme Court plays a critical role in decisions such as redistricting, which could shape future elections.

Despite the setback for conservatives, Trump also celebrated Tuesday’s two Florida special election wins by GOP congressional candidates on social media.

Trump posted about the victories by Randy Fine and Jimmy Patronis on Truth Social.

“BOTH FLORIDA HOUSE SEATS HAVE BEEN WON, BIG, BY THE REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE. THE TRUMP ENDORSEMENT, AS ALWAYS, PROVED FAR GREATER THAN THE DEMOCRATS FORCES OF EVIL. CONGRATULATIONS TO AMERICA!!!” he posted in all caps.
