President Trump shared a special Truth Social message with Canadians as Election Day began on Monday morning.

He seemingly endorsed himself, writing, “Good luck to the Great people of Canada. Elect the man who has the strength and wisdom to cut your taxes in half, increase your military power, for free, to the highest level in the World, have your Car, Steel, Aluminum, Lumber, Energy, and all other businesses, QUADRUPLE in size, WITH ZERO TARIFFS OR TAXES, if Canada becomes the cherished 51st. State of the United States of America.”

Trump continued highlighting the reasons he believes Canada should join the United States. “No more artificially drawn line from many years ago. Look how beautiful this land mass would be. Free access with NO BORDER. ALL POSITIVES WITH NO NEGATIVES. IT WAS MEANT TO BE!”

He closed with a remark that aligns with his America First agenda. “America can no longer subsidize Canada with the Hundreds of Billions of Dollars a year that we have been spending in the past. It makes no sense unless Canada is a State!”

On Sunday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio was asked during an interview whether the United States, namely President Trump, still wanted Canada to become a state.

Rubio responded, “I think the President has stated repeatedly that he thinks Canada would be better off as a state.” He added that Trump’s beliefs are “based on what he was told by the previous Prime Minister, who said Canada can’t survive unless it treats the U.S. unfairly in trade.”

While some have equated President Trump’s efforts to trolling, he recently denied he was anything but serious about the matter.

During an interview with Time magazine, a journalist stated, “You’ve talked about acquiring Greenland, taking control of the Panama Canal, and making Canada the 51st state. Maybe you’re trolling a little bit on that [last] one.”

Trump pointedly responded, “Actually, no, I’m not.”

He told the outlet, “Canada is an interesting case. We lose $200 to $250 billion a year supporting Canada.”

“We’re taking care of their military. We’re taking care of every aspect of their lives, and we don’t need them to make cars for us. In fact, we don’t want them to make cars for us. We want to make our own cars. We don’t need their lumber. We don’t need their energy. We don’t need anything from Canada. And I say the only way this thing really works is for Canada to become a state,” Trump concluded.
