President Donald Trump wished his wife, First Lady Melania Trump, a happy birthday from just outside a courtroom in New York City on Friday, where he is undergoing a criminal trial that has whisked him far away from the couple’s current home in Florida at Mar-a-Lago.
He told the press early Friday morning, “I want to start by wishing my wife, Melania, a very happy birthday. It would be nice to be with her but I’m in a courthouse for a rigged trial.”
Trump continued, “We’re doing very well in this rigged trial, and everybody knows it. Yesterday was a big day, but I do have to begin by wishing Melania a happy birthday.”
He stated that he would be flying home to Florida “this evening after this case finishes up.” The president described the case itself as “unconstitutional.”
Trump has been in New York for the past two weeks for the duration of this trial, which is expected to last for at least six weeks. He is typically in court on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Amidst a busy election season, he has managed to fit campaigning onto his calendar.
On Thursday, he met with New York workers in the early hours of the morning, on his way to the courtroom, turning an otherwise dreary affair into a homerun campaign moment.
His wife, Melania, who celebrated her 54th birthday on Friday, has also returned to the campaign trail in her own way this month. Last week, she hosted a fundraiser for the Log Cabin Republicans at Mar-a-Lago, signifying her first campaign event of the 2024 election season.
The First Lady also recently launched a new piece of jewelry in honor of Mother’s Day, called “Her Love, an exquisite jewel filled with immense gratitude,” per RSBN.
