President Donald Trump’s classified documents case has been given a trial date of May 20, 2024.

The news broke early Friday that U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon set this date as a compromise between trial date requests from the prosecution and defense, according to AP.

RSBN reported that the preliminary hearing was scheduled for August 14 but special counsel Jack Smith moved to have the trial delayed until December, per MSNBC.

On Tuesday, President Trump’s lawyer Christopher Kise asked the judge presiding over the case to recognize the importance of timing in the trial due to the 2024 presidential campaign, according to Reuters.

President Trump has decried the “current weaponized DOJ,” per RSBN, and that the charges “should be summarily dropped.”
