Since starting his second term in the White House, President Trump has made it clear that he’s pushing for American manufacturing, and Palmer Luckey is getting ready to support this vision.
According to Breitbart, Palmer Luckey is considering entering the laptop market with a fully American-made product. Luckey is the founder of military tech firm Anduril Industries and a VR innovator who found himself fired by Mark Zuckerberg for supporting President Trump.
In a post on X, Luckey had asked users, “Would you buy a Made In America computer from Anduril for 20% more than Chinese-manufactured options from Apple?” The answer revealed that 63 percent of online users would buy an American-made laptop over a Chinese import even if it was more expensive.
Breitbart reported that during the Reindustrialize Summit in Detroit, Luckey had interrupted a speaker and asked the same question to the audience. He then revealed the extensive research he had already conducted into building laptops in the U.S.
Currently, the U.S. is the largest importer of laptops in the world. TradelmeX’s 2025 Global Laptop Trade Report showed that the U.S. is the largest importer with an estimated value of $49.96 billion which is 28 percent of the global market. President Trump is seeking to lower this figure by boosting American-made manufacturing and growing the economy.
For Luckey’s laptops to display the “Made in USA” label, the entire manufacturing process must be completed in the U.S., according to the FTC’s Made in USA Standard. This means ‘all or virtually all’ components must be made in the country. Currently, some laptops are assembled in the country, but they contain components sourced from outside the U.S.
Luckey’s idea of making American-made laptops reflects President Trump’s goal to promote American manufacturing. Just recently, RSBN reported that President Trump signed a historic trade deal with the Republic of Indonesia that is a “HUGE WIN for our Automakers, Tech Companies, Workers, Farmers, Ranchers, and Manufacturers.” The deal eliminates 99 percent of tariff barriers, while Indonesia will be an Open Market to American Industrial and Tech Products.
