Tucker Carlson is in Russia this week, and in a video posted to X, he confirmed that he will be interviewing Russian President Vladimir Putin amidst the ongoing war with Ukraine.

According to Reuters, when asked whether he was in Moscow this week to interview Putin, Carlson told the press on Monday, “We’ll see.”

On Tuesday, his X video confirmed why he was in Russia, and he expanded on the important reasons why he felt compelled to give Putin a chance to share his side of the story in the conflict in which American taxpayer dollars have been funneled into for months.

“We’re in Moscow tonight,” Carlson said. “We’re here to interview the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin. We’ll be doing that soon. There are risks to conducting an interview like this, obviously. So, we’ve thought about it carefully over many months. Here’s why we’re doing it. First, because it’s our job, we’re in journalism. Our duty is to inform people.”

He added, “Two years into a war that’s reshaping the entire world, most Americans are not informed – they have no real idea what’s happening in this region here in Russia or 600 miles away in Ukraine. But they SHOULD know, they’re paying for much of it, in ways they may not fully yet perceive.”

He called the Ukraine war a “human disaster” and said it had “depopulated the largest country in Europe.”

He further warned, “This war has utterly reshaped the global military and trade alliances, and the sanctions that followed have as well, and in total, they have upended the world economy.”

Carlson stated that the dominance of the U.S. dollar was rapidly plummeting in response and observed that “these are not small changes – they are history-altering developments.”

He also railed against the “corrupt” media outlets who refused to tell Western countries the truth about what was happening between Russia and Ukraine.

The former Fox host derided many media outlets for their “fawning pep sessions” with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky while he continually asked for more military aid and assistance from the United States. “That is NOT journalism, that is government propaganda. Propaganda of the ugliest kind, the kind that kills people,” he said grimly.

He continued, “Most Americans have no idea why Putin invaded Ukraine, or what his goals are now. They’ve never heard his voice. That’s wrong. Americans have a right to know all about a war they’re implicated in, and we have the right to tell them about it because we are Americans, too.”

Carlson also touched on the Biden administration’s move to “illegally” spy on his text messages three years ago and then leak them “to their servants in the news media.”

He explained, “They did this in order to stop a Putin interview that we were planning. Last month, we’re pretty sure they did exactly the same thing once again, but this time, we came anyway.”

Carlson pointedly clarified that he did not support Putin but urged people to watch the interview so that they could be make up their own minds on what the Russian leader had to say.

He further noted that this trip to Moscow was totally self-funded and that he took “no money from any government or group, nor are we charging people to see the interview. It is not behind a paywall.”

According to Carlson, Elon Musk has also promised not to suppress or censor the interview on X.
