Former Fox News firebrand host Tucker Carlson made his first public appearance on Thursday since exiting the network, speaking in Oxnard, Alabama, to a Rainbow Omega fundraiser.

Washington Examiner initially reported that Carlson was slated to deliver remarks at the event, noting that it was “not clear” if the popular primetime TV host would publicly discuss leaving Fox News during his speech.

According to AL.com, Carlson did indeed address his split from Fox, dropping lighthearted remarks and joking, “I’m probably the first unemployed person you ever invited to speak. It’s funny. I never give speeches because I’m working. When I accepted this speech six months ago or something, I didn’t realize how much free time I would have. One never knows, does one?”

According to Rainbow Omega’s website, the organization is dedicated to embracing the Biblical symbolism of the rainbow and “ensuring that adults with developmental disabilities have a permanent and safe home where their abilities and potentials are respected and nurtured in a Christian environment.”

RSBN previously reported that Carlson had departed from Fox News in late April, leaving a gaping vacancy in his highly rated primetime slot, “Tucker Carlson Tonight.” Although no official reason has been given for his departure, many are focused primarily on what his next move may be.

Currently, Fox News is using a rotating cast of hosts to fill his timeslot. Per RSBN, Lawrence Jones had been tasked with hosting this past week, while former White House Press Secretary for President Trump, Kayleigh McEnany, is slated to host the timeslot next week.

Fox News’ stock dropped nearly $1 billion in value after Carlson’s departure was announced. Megyn Kelly reported on her show this week that Fox had also lost “two-thirds” of their audience since letting Tucker Carlson go. “I mean, that’s stunning,” she remarked.
