Alabama Republican Rep. Barry Moore won Alabama’s Republican Senate runoff Tuesday, defeating former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson and securing the GOP nomination for the Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Tommy Tuberville.
Decision Desk HQ projected Moore as the winner about two hours after polls closed. With about 51 percent of ballots counted, Moore led Hudson 59.9 percent to 40.1 percent.
A three-term congressman representing southeast Alabama and a member of the House Freedom Caucus, Moore entered the runoff with the endorsement of President Donald Trump. The president cited Moore’s conservative voting record and support for his policy agenda when backing the congressman earlier in the campaign.
The runoff followed a crowded Republican primary in May, where Moore finished first but failed to secure the majority needed to avoid a second round. Hudson advanced to the runoff after narrowly edging out Steve Marshall for second place.
Throughout the campaign, Moore emphasized his congressional experience and support for the America First agenda, highlighting issues such as border security, military readiness, and conservative judicial appointments. Hudson campaigned as an outsider, arguing that Washington needed leaders willing to challenge the political establishment.
The race opened after Tuberville chose to run for governor rather than seek another Senate term. Republicans are considered strong favorites to hold the seat in November in one of the nation’s most reliably Republican states.
President Trump previously praised Moore in a May post to Truth Social.
“Barry Moore, running for United States Senate in the GREAT State of Alabama, one of my all-time favorites, is a Fantastic guy and a totally reliable MAGA Warrior! He has my Complete and Total Endorsement – He will never let you down. Win, Barry, Win!” he wrote.
Moore will now face Everett Wess, who won the Democratic runoff against Dakarai Larriett, in the Nov. 3 general election.
National Republicans closely watched the contest as another measure of Trump’s influence in GOP primary elections, with the president’s endorsement widely viewed as a significant advantage for Moore throughout the runoff campaign.
