The U.S. Department of War is embracing the technology of tomorrow to bolster military readiness and lethality, leaving no stone unturned when it comes to the world of artificial intelligence capabilities.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced the launch of a new AI platform this week, GenAI.mil, which has been integrated into the launch of Google Cloud’s Gemini for Government.
“As technology’s advanced, so do our adversaries’,” Hegseth said. “But here at the War Department, we are not sitting idly by. Under the leadership of President Trump, America will lead the charge on this technological transformation by revolutionizing the way we win.”
He said this new platform can be used to conduct deep research, analyze data, format documents, and analyze video and imagery at “unprecedented speed.”
The secretary also stated that this new technology is exclusively American-made.
“This initiative cultivates an ‘AI-first’ workforce, leveraging generative AI capabilities to create a more efficient and battle-ready enterprise,” the department said in a press release. “Additional world-class AI models will be available to all civilians, contractors, and military personnel, delivering on the White House’s AI Action Plan announced earlier this year.”
This is a step in the right direction for the “digital battlefield” of the future, as AI models have begun to dominate nearly every level of culture.
“There is no prize for second place in the global race for AI dominance,” said Emil Michael, Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering. “We are moving rapidly to deploy powerful AI capabilities like Gemini for Government directly to our workforce. AI is America’s next Manifest Destiny, and we’re ensuring that we dominate this new frontier.”
The launch of GenAI.mil is a direct response to President Trump’s AI Action Plan, which seeks to ensure that America remains supreme in the race for AI dominance on a rapidly evolving global stage.
