President Donald Trump said on Friday that he will not sign the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act out of “protest” over the U.S. Senate’s inability to pass the SAVE America Act.
“I will not sign the Housing Bill, which has been fully approved by Congress and sent to the White House, in PROTEST over the fact that the United States Senate is not capable of passing THE SAVE AMERICA ACT, which is polling at 97% with the Republican Party, and very high with the non-politician Dumocrats,” President Trump said on Truth Social.
The bipartisan housing bill was passed by both chambers in June. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, R-La., sent the bill to the president’s desk on June 29. By doing so, he started a legislative countdown.
The president has ten days from the time the bill is delivered to his desk to either sign or veto the bill. This timeline excludes Sundays, according to Congress.
If President Trump does not sign the bill by Friday night, it will become law without his signature. He also has the option to veto the legislation and send it back to lawmakers.
The SAVE America Act is an election integrity bill that would codify voter ID and proof of U.S. citizenship to vote in federal elections. It would also prohibit mail-in ballots on the federal level.
“THE SAVE AMERICA ACT’S non-passage is CRAZY, and a serious threat to any politician who votes against it!” President Trump declared in his statement.
He added, “If the Dumocrats, or any RINO (or worse!) working with them, do not allow a positive Vote on SAVE AMERICA, TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER, and pass this, and every other Bill that true Republicans have ever dreamt of (In addition to the upcoming Budget BOMB and the 1929 catastrophic style DEBT CEILING BILL!).”
The Senate has been hesitant to “nuke the filibuster,” which would be required to pass the SAVE America Act at this point. President Trump has argued that Republicans might as well nuke it and use their majority power while they still can.
“The Dumocrats will TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER, if and when they ever get the chance to do so, in their very first hour – And I will no longer be able to call them Dumocrats again!” President Trump criticized.
