White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Tuesday reacted to new information released by the FBI regarding the continued search for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of journalist Savannah Guthrie.
During a press briefing, Secretary Leavitt apologized for being late, noting that she had been with President Trump reviewing the newly published surveillance footage shared by FBI Director Kash Patel.
“I was once again with the president; he and I were both reviewing the newly released surveillance footage from FBI in the Savannah Guthrie case in just this heartbreaking situation in respect to her mother,” she said.
Leavitt continued, “The president encourages any American across the country with any knowledge of this suspect to please call the FBI, who continue to assist state and local authorities who are leading this investigation on the ground. And once again, I will reiterate that the prayers of this entire White House are with Savannah and her family at this time; and we hope this person is found soon and that her mother is brought home safely.”
The surveillance footage Leavitt referred to was released Tuesday afternoon by the FBI. The surveillance released to the public includes photos and videos of a masked individual wearing a backpack and gloves on Nancy Guthrie’s front porch.
“Over the last eight days, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been working closely with our private sector partners to continue to recover any images or video footage from Nancy Guthrie’s home that may have been lost, corrupted, or inaccessible due to a variety of factors – including the removal of recording devices,” Patel said in a statement.
He said the video was recovered from “backend systems.”
The individual in the footage appears to have tampered with the camera at Ms. Guthrie’s front door on the morning of her disappearance.
The elderly Ms. Guthrie was reported missing in early February after last being spotted at her home in Arizona. As reported by RSBN, the FBI has offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to the rescue of Ms. Guthrie or the arrest or conviction of anyone associated with her disappearance.
