Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis reiterated this week that Floridians would not face any Covid-19 mandates, restrictions, or lockdowns while he is governor.
The governor commented in response to Philadelphia’s decision to reinstate indoor mask mandates beginning April 18 due to a rise in Covid-19 cases.
DeSantis has long advocated for individual choice and has vehemently opposed Covid-19 mandates and restrictions. During a recent panel discussion with Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joesph Ladapo and several other medical experts, DeSantis called to end Covid restrictions, noting that “there is no place in Florida for COVID theater.”
The governor also shot back at critics of his pro-freedom policies. He pointed out that many Democrats who push for mask mandates and lockdowns violate the very policies they impose on others.
For example, the governor reminded reporters that many blue-state Democrats had been spotted maskless in various parts of Florida. DeSantis astutely remarked, “The issue is if they thought their policies really were necessary…they would be abiding by it. They’re not abiding by it because they know it’s all about politics and control.”
As reported by RSBN, DeSantis warned at a recent Expand American Energy forum in Doral, Florida, that Democrats would likely reimpose Covid-related restrictions if they kept control of Congress after the midterm elections.
According to DeSantis:
“And so that will happen. If those types of people are allowed to be put in power, my view on that is, they’ve put Fauci in the witness protection program because he will say, you know, no, you should still wear a mask, and he’s never going to say be normal, go back to normal. So they know that, and they know that that’s not what people want.”
Fortunately for Floridians, DeSantis has made it abundantly clear that these measures will be off the table so long as he is governor.
