After months of speculation, Governor Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., is indeed planning to make an official bid for the White House.
DeSantis will be going live on Twitter tomorrow with the platform’s owner Elon Musk to make his decision public, officially throwing his hat into the ring for the GOP presidential nomination. Musk confirmed this report to Fox News on Tuesday.
Before this announcement, DeSantis has made subtle moves politically and financially, hinting at his interest in running for the GOP nomination.
According to a poll taken by FiveThirtyEight, DeSantis is in a comfortable second place when it comes to the GOP primaries, although he is far behind President Trump.
For months, DeSantis has polled well relative to other candidates like Gov. Nikki Haley, R-N.C., or former Vice President Mike Pence. However, the first-place candidate, President Donald Trump consistently holds a double-digit lead ahead of the Florida governor.
Taking his 2024 announcement public on Twitter is an interesting move by the DeSantis campaign and could boost the popularity of the DeSantis presidential bid on social media.
DeSantis making a splash on Twitter might motivate the Trump team to respond or schedule counter-programming that would refocus attention back on the Trump campaign.
