There continue to be interesting parallels between President Donald J. Trump’s foreign and domestic policies and those of President Ronald Reagan. In President Trump’s view, strength is essential to the success of his administration.
He has positioned the federal government to curtail government spending, while at the same time not jeopardizing the U.S. military and its might. The president has made it known that he seeks peace and loathes war. However, he is cognizant that several bad actors on the international stage have taken advantage of U.S. appeasement from the last administration.
Other nations, in response to President Trump’s tariffs, have recognized the need to strengthen their border security with the U.S., reduce illegal crossings, and combat drug smuggling. Further, the President’s stance on the Panama Canal has made the world aware that the U.S. will not take a second seat to China, not now or ever.
Diplomacy has mattered to President Trump, but respect must be earned by nations seeking U.S. aid and support. While the President has angered some international leaders with his actions thus far, his positions have solidified his campaign promises of restoring American pride, safety and security. His America First agenda solely focuses on saving American lives, not losing them to unnecessary wars or the drug epidemic.
Allies have not been abandoned but rather encouraged to support the restoration of freedom and democracy worldwide. This is evident with Trump’s plan to enable peace in Palestine through U.S. intervention.
President Trump is well aware that the world is a dangerous place, and the adversaries of the U.S. seek to eliminate much of the freedom the American people enjoy. To succeed in restoring, and safeguarding American democracy, the President is required to serve as an example of strength, detouring enemies from challenging American ideals. This approach models that of not only Reagan but also past presidents such as Theodore Roosevelt.
The American people voted for change and were inarguably disgusted with the appeasement of the last administration, where the U.S. was considered a weak power among the hostile nations of Iran, China and Russia. Wars started and engulfed American allies into a time of despair. Things have changed.
President Trump’s agenda is just getting started, but it has caught the attention of the international stage and laid the foundations for peace and strength to return to the American people. America has long been seen globally as a symbol of hope and freedom, seemingly always prepared to act for the betterment of mankind and liberty. These days are back, and President Trump has declared peace as the top priority, promising all necessary actions to protect freedom.
Strong leaders are tested, attacked and intimidate the dictators of the world. President Trump has thrived under pressure and has other nations realizing that American ideals will dictate domestic and international affairs, with the end goal of always maintaining peace and liberty.
