At one point in history, the philosopher was considered the most distinguished and respected citizen in society. Made popular by the Greco-Roman world, philosophy became a common pursuit and even found its place among the early church fathers.

Figures such as Justin Martyr, Augustine and later Thomas Aquinas demonstrated how philosophy could serve as a handmaid to theology, playing a crucial role in the development of Christian apologetics.

A common trait among many ancient philosophers was their belief in a deity or higher power.

Today, philosophy has drastically changed, with God often being removed from the discussion altogether. Closely connected to philosophy is the concept of a worldview. A worldview is the perception of the world in which one lives. Everyone has a worldview, even atheists, though they may not recognize it.

If practiced correctly, a Christian worldview dictates the decisions in one’s life. It serves as the foundational stone for life’s standards, daily living, and the obstacles we face.

A Christian worldview underscores the deity of Jesus Christ, His saving power, and His lordship over every part of society. Maintaining the faith in all aspects of life requires a personal commitment, a strong family foundation and a standard that shapes the wider society. All come from a Christian worldview.

We often hear today of the indoctrination of the younger generation, shaped mainly by liberal academia. A steady and firm Christian worldview combats such dangers.

A Christian worldview stood in opposition to Nazism, as seen in the example of men such as Dietrich Bonhoeffer.

In connection with philosophy, Christians, and all people alike, should regularly ask themselves questions such as: Where does morality come from? What is the purpose of life?

Practicing Christians, strong in their faith, can answer these questions with confidence. Knowing the Scriptures, believing the message of Jesus Christ, and living with an awareness of the Great Commission motivate believers to understand their purpose in God’s plan.

The concept of a Christian worldview may seem relatively simple. At its core, it is to follow Christ, adhere to the Word of God, and remain the salt and light of the earth.

However, living this out is often easier said than done. In a fallen world, filled with temptations and sin, one’s worldview can easily falter, creating stumbling blocks for believers and even leading some to leave the faith altogether.

Thankfully, it is the salvation found in Christ and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit that lifts the Christian up and keeps their worldview heavenly focused.

In the end, the call of the believer is clear: remain faithful, stay grounded in God’s Word, and live each day with the assurance that Christ reigns.

A Christian worldview is not simply an idea, but a way of life that directs our souls, our homes, and our hope toward the glory of God.
