Anyone who has worn a badge understands that hostility toward law enforcement is a very real and growing problem in our country.
As the Department of Homeland Security works to keep America safer by addressing crime nationwide, Immigration and Customs Enforcement continues to face both verbal and physical attacks.
President Ronald Reagan stated, “A nation that cannot control its borders is not a nation.” Similarly, President Donald Trump has remarked, “A nation without borders is not a nation.” Both statements prove a fundamental truth: sovereignty depends on enforcement.
The act of illegal immigration is, by definition, a violation of the law. Those who oppose the enforcement of immigration statutes should be honest enough to say they support an open-border model, one in which no meaningful vetting or standards are upheld.
From Canada to Australia to Mexico, every sovereign nation maintains immigration requirements. Enter any of these countries illegally, and you will face arrest, prosecution and removal. Why should America be the exception?
For decades, the liberal media has reported that roughly eight to nine million illegal immigrants were in the nation. Not surprisingly, this number never increased in their reporting, and the general public clearly caught on. Such numbers were not only inaccurate but blatant lies. The stagnant figure was designed to minimize public concern and hide the true scope of the crisis.
President Trump is the first modern president to seek to address the crisis and restore law and order by enforcing immigration laws.
Illegal immigration is connected to global and domestic terrorism and has always served as a threat to law enforcement. Countless law enforcement officers have lost their lives over the decades when approaching illegal immigrants, who, in return, can attack law enforcement in fear of deportation. These dangers are real, yet critics continue to vilify the very officers who confront them daily.
While most Americans are indeed empathetic to the horrible living conditions of many illegal immigrants and their desire to be part of the American Dream, the mere act of entering the nation illegally is breaking the law. Not only does it show a blatant disrespect for law and order, but it also harms immigrants who are seeking to legally enter the United States and often wait years for acceptance. The rule of law should not be replaced by compassion, nor should it be used as a weapon against those who must uphold it.
This massive failure of enforcement also impacts legal residents financially, with conservative estimates putting the net cost of illegal immigration to U.S. taxpayers at well over $150 billion annually due to education, healthcare, and other services.
The Left’s war on ICE is nothing less than a war on America’s right to protect itself.
