Multiple FEMA officials have been fired for violating the policy of the Trump administration according to a statement from the Department of Homeland Security.
The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) announced its finding on Monday that $59 million had been paid to house illegal migrants in luxury hotels, a direct violation of President Trump’s executive order on the matter.
The statement from a DHS spokesperson said the individuals involved would be terminated immediately for “circumventing leadership to unilaterally make egregious payments for luxury NYC hotels for migrants.”
DHS listed FEMA’s Chief Financial Officer, two program analysts and a grant specialist as the employees being terminated as a result of the payments.
Assistant Secretary for the Department of Homeland Security, Tricia McLaughlin, stated in a post on X “We must get rid of FEMA the way it exists today,” and referred to the hotel payments as a “another egregious example.”
President Trump expressed his outrage after learning of the luxury hotel payments and reaffirmed his commitment to reforming FEMA.
In a truth social post on Tuesday, President Trump stated “FEMA spent tens of millions of dollars in Democrat areas, disobeying orders, but left the people of North Carolina high and dry.”
President Trump also emphasized his vision for handing disaster relief back to individual states as a way to increase efficiency and cut out corruption and waste.
“It is now under review and investigation. THE BIDEN RUN FEMA HAS BEEN A DISASTER. FEMA SHOULD BE TERMINATED! IT HAS BEEN SLOW AND TOTALLY INEFFECTIVE. INDIVIDUAL STATES SHOULD HANDLE STORMS, ETC., AS THEY COME. BIG SAVINGS, FAR MORE EFFICIENT!!!” Trump said.
