The Trump administration secured yet another economic win for the American people this week, announcing a whopping $100 billion additional investment from semiconductor manufacturer TSMC.
The investment comes months after an initial agreement related to trade between the U.S. and Taiwan in January, bringing the total investment up to $265 billion in the U.S., according to the Department of Commerce.
TSMC will invest the money into advanced semiconductor and packaging facilities in Arizona. The total $265 billion investment will result in 12 TSMC facilities in the U.S., according to the agency.
“President Trump’s leadership is driving companies to invest in American manufacturing,” said Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnik in a statement this week.
He continued, “TSMC’s announcement of an additional $100 billion investment following our historic deal on trade and investment with Taiwan will create tens of thousands of American jobs and bring advanced semiconductor manufacturing back to America.”
TSMC Chairman and CEO Dr. C.C. Wei thanked the Trump administration and Secretary Lutnik for facilitating the investment, stating it was meant to “support the strong multi-year demand from our leading U.S. customers, and we believe this investment will further foster the development of the U.S. semiconductor ecosystem, strengthen the supply chain, and support significant job creation in the United States.”
President Trump celebrated the whopping investment, as well.
“For decades, horrible politicians allowed our Industrial Base to move overseas,” he said in a Friday statement.
The president continued, “Their Trade Policies encouraged Companies to find the cheapest Labor, and build the Products we invented across Asia. When I took Office, we didn’t build Leading Edge Semiconductor Chips here in America. American Trade Policy was broken and, the results, disastrous.”
President Trump touted the massive investment from TSMC, highlighting it as a win for his administration’s trade policies and deals.
“From Automobiles, Pharmaceuticals, to Semiconductors, and everything across our Economy, the Trump Administration is bringing Advanced Manufacturing home to America,” he declared. “This is what SUCCESS feels like! Massive Hiring, massive Construction, massive Investment — Welcome to the Golden Age of America, where we invite everybody to come and build in America — and remember, if you do so, there are NO TARIFFS!”
