Actress and American talk show host Whoopi Goldberg recently claimed that President Trump’s economic policies have not helped bring down the cost of food, particularly the price of eggs. This is false, and she was proven wrong.
Breitbart reported that during an episode of the talk show The View, Goldberg had told her co-host Sunny Hostin, “[Trump] did promise to lower the price of groceries, I have not seen an egg fall one cent since this man got in.” But it turns out that Goldberg’s claims couldn’t be further from the truth.
A reporter from the Daily Caller fact-checked Goldberg’s incorrect claims about President Trump’s economics. According to the Daily Caller, the prices of eggs have fallen a staggering 44 percent since the start of 2025, and it was under Joe Biden’s administration that the prices of this food had risen so dramatically.
The Daily Caller also reported that when Biden first entered office in January 2021, egg prices rose from $1.46 per dozen to $4.14 in December 2024. According to Breitbart, data from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) revealed that since 2022, around 108 million egg-laying hens have died, and 13 million in 2025, because of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), also known as bird flu. This year, the USDA reported no significant outbreaks of bird flu.
During a briefing earlier in January this year, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt had blamed Biden and his Department of Agriculture for the “mass killing” of 100 million chickens, resulting in a severe shortage that drove up the prices.
It is untrue to claim that egg prices have not fallen since President Trump revived the American economy. Breitbart reported that on President Trump’s first full day in his second term, egg prices were at $6.41, and by April, the wholesale price was just over $3 for a dozen.
John Carney, a reporter from Breitbart, reported on the price drop: ” The price of large white shell eggs fell 15 percent in early March, bringing relief to consumers who have been scrambling to adjust their inflation-shellacked grocery budgets.”
