Vice President Vance highlights successful terms of peace deal with Iran

Vice President J.D. Vance has confirmed some of the key terms in the forthcoming peace deal between the U.S. and Iran. Although the full details have not been released, Vance stated the deal would contain key U.S. objectives, including Iran’s disposal of enriched uranium and a commitment not to build a nuclear weapon.

Over the weekend, President Trump announced a memorandum of understanding between the U.S. and Iran, a move confirmed by officials from both Iran and Pakistan, which has acted as a mediator throughout the negotiations between the two countries. In a post on Truth Social, Trump described the proposed deal as one that would bring peace and security to the region and restore oil transportation through the Strait of Hormuz.

“The Leaders of the Region have, for the first time, found a President who can help them achieve real Peace,” President Trump said. “With the opening of the Strait upon the signing of the Deal on Friday, for purposes of mine removal, oil will flow on both ends again for the Region, and the World!”

Speaking to NBC News on Monday, Vance stated that the deal would include inspections by the United Nations to ensure Iran was not working towards the creation of a nuclear weapon, referring to inspections as “one of the core parts of the agreement.” Vance also stated that the deal would include a provision for the U.S. to assist in the destruction of Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium.

Iran has asserted its enrichment of uranium was solely for civilian use rather than weapons development. The International Atomic Energy Agency(IAEA) ceased inspections in Iran when the military conflict began in February 2026. During the course of prior investigations, the IAEA found Iran had enriched uranium to the point of 60 percent purity, which falls short of the 90 percent enrichment levels required for the development of a nuclear weapon.

According to Vice President Vance, the memorandum of understanding between the U.S. and Iran is scheduled for an official signing in Switzerland on June 19.

“If the Iranians comply, benefits will flow to them, and that’s what we hope to see. We want them to behave like a normal country,” Vice President Vance said. “I want them to have a successful country, but only if they do what’s necessary to commit long term to not building a nuclear weapon.”
