Representative Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, posted on X on Tuesday that Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra will be subpoenaed in relation to the ongoing border crisis.
Jordan wrote in his post that Becerra is being subpoenaed “for information about the misplacement of unaccompanied alien children with convicted murder[ers] and other criminals.”
In a similar statement, Congressman Jeff Van Drew, R-N.J., posted on X that “President Biden doesn’t just refuse to secure the border; he is actively taking cases to the Supreme Court to prevent states from taking action themselves.”
Van Drew calls this “a blatant failure in protecting Americans and our nation’s sovereignty.” Like Jordan, Van Drew wants to see politicians held accountable for their actions, or lack thereof, while they hold office.
Furthermore, the House Judiciary Committee made a press release stating they want to collect data and information relating to the placement, sponsor vetting, and criminal/gang affiliation of unaccompanied alien children when they enter the United States.
It is worth noting the Judiciary Committee is investigating the Office of Refugee Resettlement, which remains an official component of the Department of Health and Human Services.
The Office of Refugee Resettlement is responsible for the placement of unaccompanied alien children after they cross the border into the United States. The Judiciary Committee has also repeatedly asked Secretary Becerra to appear after the committee interviewed Office of Refugee Resettlement Director Robin Dunn Marcos.
Director Dunn Marcos also failed to answer the Judiciary Committee when asked questions about topics, including whether her office maintained a policy of reporting known gang members to the Department of Justice.
The release notes that Dunn Marcos was not able to present data on unaccompanied alien children placed in the custody of a known sex offender or the total sponsor applications rejected based on the potential sponsor being a convicted murderer.
