President Donald Trump offered a little insight into who he may choose as a vice-presidential running mate, telling Fox News’ Bret Baier that he “may or may not release something in the next couple of months – there’s no rush to that.”
He added, “It won’t have any impact at all. The person that I think I like, is a very good person, pretty standard. I think people won’t be that surprised. But I would say there’s probably a 25 percent chance it would be that person.”
Over the past few months, several GOP presidential candidates have exited the Republican primary race.
Most recently, Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., announced the suspension of his presidential campaign, lending a last-minute endorsement to Trump just two days before the New Hampshire early-state primary.
“It’s clear to me that a majority of Republican primary voters want to give Donald Trump another chance,” Gov. DeSantis said in a video announcing his campaign’s suspension.
In a previous town hall with Fox News, President Trump touched on the issue of a vice-presidential running mate, as well, stating, “…I know WHO it’s going to be.”
Much speculation has surrounded Trump’s potential vice-presidential pick. Popular names that have been floated in the mainstream media include Gov. Kristi Noem, R-S.D., Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., and retired neurosurgeon and former Trump cabinet member Dr. Ben Carson.
Each of the aforementioned Trump allies has hit the campaign trail with the president in the 2024 primary season. Other notable Republican figures that have joined the campaign push with Trump recently are former GOP candidates Gov. Doug Burgum, R-N.D., Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy.
It is unclear when President Trump will announce his pick for a vice presidential running mate, but it will likely come after most of the primary election races are wrapped up this year.
