One year after the widely criticized Roe v. Wade abortion case was overturned by the United States Supreme Court, abortion rates nationwide have dramatically decreased.

Since Roe v. Wade was overturned a year ago, there has been a decrease in abortions nationwide as several states have adopted life-affirming legislation in response to the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which changed the nation’s abortion laws and regulations.

In an evaluation exclusively provided to FiveThiryEight, #WeCount found that “there were 24,290 fewer legal abortions between July 2022 and March 2023, compared to a pre-Dobbs baseline.” CatholicVote used this information to emphasize the decline in abortion rates.

The Dobbs decision, the report claims, “created intense turmoil for tens of thousands of Americans across the country,” as there were 93,575 fewer legal abortions in states that swiftly restricted abortion access for at least one week in the nine-month period after the Dobbs decision was handed down.

According to the report, women were obliged to go to states with a left-leaning political slant because of the limitations on abortion in Republican-led states. During the same time period, there was an abortion increase of 69,285 in states where abortions are easily accessible.

However, the “increases in abortion in some states didn’t make up for decreases elsewhere,” the report pointed out.

For instance, Axios reports that abortions are practically nonexistent in Louisiana since the state enacted one of the nation’s strictest abortion prohibitions.

The site stated that the Pelican State reported a rate of zero legal abortions per 100,000 inhabitants, citing the data of #WeCount. Additionally, the state has performed 6,500 fewer abortions since April 2022, or about two months before Roe was overturned.

The great state of Texas has also experienced a significant drop in abortions, as the abortion rate in the Lone Star State plummeted by 99.5 percent following the Supreme Court’s ruling, KXAN reported.

At the Faith and Freedom Coalition’s “Road to Majority,” President Donald Trump commemorated Dobbs’ one-year anniversary by highlighting his pro-life presidency. Trump nominated three conservative Supreme Court justices who played a crucial role in overturning the nearly 50-year-old abortion law.
