Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., is co-sponsoring a bill to withdraw the U.S. from NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization).

She announced the news on X, Tuesday, supporting H.R. 6508. The legislation was introduced by Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., and notes that in recent years NATO’s relevance has waned and its influence has been used to expand eastward. Eastward expansion of NATO specifically violates the U.S. pledge made to Mikhail Gorbachev just before the collapse of the Soviet Union
The bill also notes that half of NATO members fail to uphold their financial responsibility to the alliance, leaving the U.S. to “shoulder the burden” of this ongoing initiative. It further explains that membership in NATO costs more than Russia’s expenses, subsidizing European security at the expense of American national security interests.

“NATO is a Cold War relic. The United States should withdraw from NATO and use that money to defend our country, not socialist countries,” Massie noted, while sharing his bill on social media.
This comes as the Trump administration is reportedly considering changing its role within NATO. According to NBC News, two defense officials confirmed that the Pentagon is considering stepping down from its role as the Supreme Allied Commander Europe of NATO (SACEUR).
President Donald Trump has a history of criticizing NATO for multiple members’ failure to uphold their support pledges. He has repeatedly stated that Europe needs to defend itself and stop relying so heavily on U.S. support.
