During a press conference on Tuesday, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., announced that she is heading a new task force that will restore American’s trust in their leaders.

She stated, “If we are to endure and thrive as a nation, we must restore trust—trust through transparency.”

“The American people must be trusted to think for themselves, to form their own judgements from the truth that they are entitled to know,” she added. “We’ve been treated like children for too long and kept in the dark by those we elected to serve us.”

She pledged to mend trust between the government and The People to deliver, “A government that does not just serve, but one that enlightens.”

According to the House Oversight Committee Press Release, Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., tapped Luna to lead these investigations noting that, “The task force’s mission is to examine the declassification of materials in the public interest,” and is driven by President Trump’s Executive Order to declassify the John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. assassination files.

Comer and Rep. Luna have already contacted the directors of multiple government agencies to schedule a briefing on information regarding these issues and others by Feb. 18.

Rep. Eli Crane, R-Ariz., and Rep. Eric Burlison, R-Mo., will be aiding Luna on the task force along with Rep. Tim Burchette, R-Tenn., Rep. Lauren Boebart, R-Colo., Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Tex., and Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C.

Crane celebrated his involvement by sharing a clip of Luna’s press conference where she announced the task force details and explained that the first round of hearings will begin next month.

He wrote, “We can’t drain the swamp unless the government is transparent.”

Burlison shared the news, adding, “The American people deserve answers—it’s time for full accountability and transparency.”
