Arizona Congressman Eli Crane (R) announced on Tuesday that he is working on drafting articles of impeachment against U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer after he blocked Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from accessing files at the U.S. Treasury.
“Judge Engelmayer is attempting to stop White House employees from accessing the very systems they oversee,” Crane stated on X.
He added, “Where in the constitution does it say a President and his team cannot root out obvious waste, fraud and abuse?”
Engelmayer – an Obama-appointed judge – issued an order over the weekend blocking Musk and DOGE from accessing and reviewing documents from the United States Department of the Treasury, per Politico. The decision was largely based on the argument that “sensitive data” could be leaked or hacked from the system.
Rep. Crane slammed the move as a partisan strategy and implied that radical judges across the United States are “abusing their positions” to block President Trump’s agenda to root out corruption in the federal government.
“Partisan judges abusing their positions is a threat to democracy,” he said. “The left has done ‘irreparable harm’ to this country. President Trump and his team at @DOGE are trying to fix it.”
Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson discussed DOGE’s work on Tuesday during a press conference in D.C., highlighting the progress Musk and his allies have made in just a matter of weeks.
He explained, “They’re uncovering things that we have known intuitively have been there, but we couldn’t prove it. Now, the proof is being provided, and no one can argue the counter to that…I think the courts should take a step back and allow these processes to play out.”
The speaker’s statement also strongly reflected President Donald Trump’s thoughts on the courts’ blockade against DOGE.
The president wrote on Truth Social, “Billions of Dollars of FRAUD, WASTE, AND ABUSE, has already been found in the investigation of our incompetently run Government. Now certain activists and highly political judges want us to slow down, or stop.”
He added that “losing this momentum will be very detrimental to finding the TRUTH, which is turning out to be a disaster for those involved in running out Government.”
