In an extraordinary move of diplomacy, President Donald Trump and his administration mediated a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, ending the four-day-long conflict.

Announcing the deal to Truth Social on Saturday, President Trump congratulated both countries for using “Common Sense and Great Intelligence” to agree to the “FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE.”

Lauding the United States’ efforts in initiating the “historic and heroic decision,” the president thanked Pakistan and India for stopping their aggression, noting that “millions of good and innocent people could have died” if the two countries had kept fighting.

In a separate post, he also explained that he would “increase trade, substantially, with both of these great Nations” while hoping to adjudicate a “thousand-year ” solution to Kashmir territory disputes.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President J.D. Vance helped broker the ceasefire deal between the two nations, working with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistan Prime Minister Shebaz Sharif, according to JustTheNews.

India and Pakistan began fighting each other on Wednesday after a deadly terrorist attack targeting Hindu tourists in the town of Pahalgam claimed the lives of 26 people on April 22, Fox News reported.

Moreover, the two countries rule parts of Kashmir, but both claim complete control.

India blamed Lashkar-e-Taiba, a Pakistani-based terrorist group that claimed responsibility for the attack, as both countries ramped up missile and drone strikes, fears of nuclear war began, prompting U.S. peace negotiations.

However, the peace deal was almost immediately tested. Hours after the agreement had been made, Pakistan and India accused each other of violating the ceasefire, having experienced escalating military exchanges since Friday.

However, the reported fighting and explosions seemingly quieted between the two countries, according to Fox News.
