Ban on gender identity education in schools passes Florida Senate, heads to DeSantis’ desk

To empower parental rights in education, the Florida Senate successfully passed HB 1557, falsely coined as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill by critics, prohibiting sexual orientation and gender identity education for young students.

HB 1557 was passed in a 22-17 vote Tuesday after state Democrats actively protested the legislation in hopes of preventing its implementation, according to the Washington Examiner.

The bill now heads to Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is expected to sign it into law after defending the legislation against baseless narratives perpetuated by the mainstream media and Democrats.

A day before HB 1557 passed through the Florida legislature, DeSantis fired back at a reporter who referred to the parental rights bill as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill.

“Does it say that that in the bill?” DeSantis prompted the reporter. “I’m asking you to tell me what’s in the bill because you are pushing false narratives.”

After clarifying the legislation bans classroom instruction on sexual identity and gender orientation for children pre-k through third grade, DeSantis called out the reporter for peddling false narratives.

“For grades pre-k through three. So five-year-olds, six-year-olds, seven-year-olds — and the idea that you wouldn’t be honest about that and tell people what it actually says, it’s why people don’t trust people like you because you peddle false narratives,” the governor added.

This, however, is not the first time the governor has pointed out the media’s shameful coverage of the legislation.

Last week, DeSantis rebuked a different reporter for spreading the “Don’t Say Gay” narrative.

“Does the truth matter or not?” the governor asked a reporter.

“And so you actually look at the bill, and it says no sexual instruction in grades pre-k through three. And so how many parents want their kindergarteners to have transgenderism or something injected into classroom instruction?” DeSantis said, debunking the misleading claims.
