President Joe Biden is facing backlash this week from fellow party members as cities in blue states across the country struggle to accommodate migrants pouring in from Republican border states. Democrats across the country have repeatedly criticized the Biden administration for their lack of action to solve the border crisis.
Further, New York State Gov. Kathy Hocul, D-N.Y., revealed during a public address last month that she “issued a letter to the Biden administration formally requesting that it take executive action to address New York’s migrant crisis.”
In her comments, Hochul alludes to the fact the immigration crisis in the state has been created by the federal government and therefore remains the responsibility of the federal government to solve, according to Fox News.
Notably, in a Fox News Business Network interview last Thursday, a host pointed out that it costs the government $10,000 per week for each individual migrant in New York City alone. New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) responded by encouraging New Yorkers to take pride in their city providing refuge for so many migrants, Fox reported.
According to one New York Post poll, 82 percent of New Yorkers consider the continuous influx of migrants to the city a serious problem, compared to 16 percent who said it is not a serious problem.
New York has a long history of being a settling place for immigrants looking to start new lives and find new opportunities, but this poll shows that New Yorkers seem to be at their wit’s end with the Biden administration’s negligence when it comes to migrants.
The 2024 presidential election is looming, and some Democrats like Kathy Hocul are turning against the Biden administration for its lack of response to their pleas to mitigate the effects of the ongoing border crisis.
Most blue state Democrats want Biden to expedite migrant work permits so cities like New York can get migrants out of shelters. However, it remains to be seen if Biden will answer this call, as some states have declared a state of emergency due to the migrant crisis.
